Are color-enhanced mulches safe around plants and pets?

What’s the right mulch depth in Dallas?

Aim for 2–3 inches. Go toward 3 inches for weed suppression, 2 inches for decorative beds.

What is expanded shale and why is it useful here?

A lightweight, porous aggregate that improves aeration and drainage in heavy clay soils. Excellent in raised beds and around perennials and shrubs.

Can I mix compost into existing beds?
